• Weezer

  I didn't really get into music until I was well into my teenage years, and Weezer was the first band I considered myself to be a real fan of. I didn't have much money then, but as soon as I was able I purchased the Blue Album and Pinkerton and listened to them religiously on a thrifted old CD stereo that only had 1/4" output jacks and took most of the space on my nightstand. When I couldn't sleep at night I would listen to those CDs over and over again, letting the roar of the guitars and screeching feedback and Rivers' soft sad vulnerable voice wash over me and carry me off to my dreams, and I felt so seen as only a miserable lost confused teenager can feel when you finally feel like someone recognizes you and what you're going through, and even though they're too far away to help hey at least they noticed and isn't that nice? I cut my hair like Rivers, I dreamed of being in a band like Rivers, a nerdy little band with sad little songs and so much distortion it would blow your eardrums out. The dream hasn't died, but it's still just a dream -- only in dreams, we see what it means.
